Long-term care (LTC) ombudsman work to resolve complaints and issues relating to the health, safety, security, and rights of individuals who live in long-term, assisted care facilities. Ombudsman programs advocate for resident rights, which include the following:
- Residents are to be treated with dignity and respect
- Residents are allowed freedom of choice
- Residents have the right for privacy and confidentiality
- Residents have the right to receive information
- Residents have the right to transfer and discharge
- Residents have the right to file complaints
